welcome to Cypress roots sup SURF school. We are a world paddle association certification training school in austin, tx.

All of the following services are offered as group sessions. Private single and group sessions are available by appointment.

A 6-8 hour training led by World Paddle Association level 2 trainer, Melody Benton of Cypress Roots SUP Surf Yoga School. This training equips the SUP instructor how to organize, set up and lead a beginner to intermediate SUP class . Learn water safety knowledge, rescue skills, foundational paddling coaching, equipment anatomy for board fitting and clear concise coaching. This training will improve your over all paddling and mobility skills with deeper head to foot body awareness, while focusing on strong coaching skills. Participants will be introduced to paddling techniques for racing, SUP surfing and white water SUP, but not required to be efficient.

Requirements: Participants must have at least 2 years of consistent paddling experience, strong swimmer and physically fit to do safety rescues in the water. Teaching or coaching experience is recommended but not required. Those who do not pass the skills test will be allowed to complete on their own with in one year of the training. Certification is awarded after passing the skills and written test.

WATER 2 COURSE:

SUP YOGA TEACHER CERTIFICATION TRAINING

Requirements to receive an official Cypress Roots SUP YOGA Certification & active teaching status:

1) Completed and passed Water 1 Course (This course requires at least 2 years of consistent stand up paddle boarding experience)

2) Completed a 200 hr YTT

For those who are only interested in the training and not the certification, students must have at least 1 year of a consistent yoga practice with a certified instructor.

SUP Surf Yoga classes teach essential core integrated skills influenced from pilates, yoga, primal fitness and ocean surfing. Improve overall hip, shoulder and spine mobility as your body remembers its fluid nature . Take your balance abilities to the next level while exploring in nature on the water like our ancestors. As you journey to your center through your awakening hands and feet, you will leave class with a deeper sense of how everything is connected with in and to nature, restoring you back to a WHOLE rejuvenated being.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding Lessons

Foundations and Form

Our SUP coaches will equip you with all the tools and mindset a paddler needs to know for safety, skills and comfort. Learn how to fall gracefully, get back on with ease, and cultivate a surfer’s s state of mind. Learn how to get more connected to your feet as portals to your core and superior dynamic balance. Reduce shoulder, back and neck tension by learning how to paddle from your legs and core. Water is the most dynamic environment on earth. Everything is constantly moving. The key is learning how to move with the water instead of resisting the movement. After just one session, you will experience how to “yield” and allow the water to ebb and flow under your feet.

WHY SHOULD I TRY A STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING LESSON OR CLASS?

Cypress Roots SUP school is here to help you expand ALL the ways you can use a stand up paddle board. Fitness, racing, SUP surfing, River SUP, SUP yoga, SUP pilates, floating meditation and yes, even partner acrobatics to challenge the elite balancing athletes. Most importantly though, is to educate the public on 3 THINGS:

1-Proper stand up paddling technique

2-Safety and Etiquette

3-How to listen to and move with the water to reset, restore and re-energize back to wholeness.

WHY ARE THESE 3 THINGS IMPORTANT???

1. Good technique creates core, feet and leg integration and not just the upper body. With whole body paddling the paddler improves coordination, balance and efficiency while reducing risk of injury and strain.

2. Safety & Etiquette- Learn the best ways to keep yourself and others safe. Learn necessary board equipment & education, weather preparations and water way rules. Let’s stay aware to keep all water athletes safe and in mutual respect as we all share nature’s liquid playground.

3. Experiencing your body moving on a fluid dynamic surface can naturally teach the human body to move with less bracing and more “tuning in” to a softer, more fluid self with in and out the body. When we feel at one with the water, we remember we too are water and water is LIFE. Protect her and LEAVE NO TRACE.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding by moonlight

Come experience paddle boarding under the night sky and a floating meditative moon gaze. Melody will educate and guide you from beginning to end. She will begin the moonlight excursion with a 15 minute night-time paddle education and safety equipment preparation. There are very few boats out at night, but very important to know some basic water navigation skills and knowledge/laws.

Let go of stress, busyness, unclarity, overwhelm or maybe even loneliness that create a feeling of disconnection and disharmony with in the body and self. Reintegrate with nature to connect to your true nature of wholeness and oneness.
